About this audiobook

A new epic romantic, dystopian fantasy begins in Seek the Traitor's Son, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth. This program features multicast narration.

Elegy Ahn did not ask for destiny to find her.

She is happy with her life as a soldier. She spends her days fighting the Talusar, whose deadly Fever and mysterious gifts threaten her small country’s very existence.

But then she’s summoned to hear a prophecy–her, and the most ruthless of Talusar generals, Rava Vidar. Brought face to face, they learn that one of them will lead their people to victory over the other...but they don’t know which. And at the center of both of their fates: a man. A man that, Elegy is told, she will fall in love with.

In just one day, Elegy’s old life–her job, her purpose, and her future–is over. She and Rava are destined to collide, with the fate of their nations hanging in the balance. And when they do, only one will be left standing.

Elegy intends to make sure it’s her.

Hear me out! Seek The Traitor's Son was good but not great. The beginning had me hooked, I enjoyed the setting which felt like a mix of Dune meets Foundation, with these warring factions fighting over people and resources. I loved the idea of a virus giving people powers and seeing the effects and opinions of both sides - those frightened by the fever and the deaths it's caused and those who see it as a trial to become more powerful. Theran was such a good character. I love that he was truly flawed and his backstory was so interesting. He was brazen and bold one moment and running for his life beating himself up over his failures the next. I'll be adding him to my roster of favorite book characters immediately. I think like many other readers I was blindsided by the romance plot here going from zero to a hundred, maybe that could have been a slower burn, but it just felt rushed. I'll be picking up book two, but I'm not absolutely blown away by this story just yet.

This was a fantastic read. I enjoyed the dystopian world building, character descriptions, the slowburn and angst between FMC and MMC. This book had me nervous through the battles, tense situations and sad at times. The technological and scientific people that coincide with the archaic dynasty that the author has created I entertaining and thought provoking. I am looking forward to book two. I highly recommend this novel.
